Brief History

MacArthur's Best-Planned Village

Like its neighbor Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach is part of the John D. MacArthur legacy. In 1954, MacArthur bought 2,600 acres of former mangrove swamp and farmland along the coast, land assembled during the 1920s boom, and set out to build a village from scratch. His team dredged waterfront streets, planned parks and marinas, and designed a community with genuine small-town character.

The village incorporated in 1956 and that same year was named the Best Planned Community in the nation by the home builders' association. When Pratt & Whitney opened nearby in 1958, North Palm Beach became home to a wave of new residents who came for the jobs and stayed for the waterfront lifestyle. Today the village of roughly 13,000 retains that planned character, with marinas, a country club, parks, and water woven through the streets.

Buyer's Guide

What to Know Before Buying in North Palm Beach

Waterfront Systems

Homes on the dredged canals have seawalls, docks, and lifts to inspect. Confirm seawall condition, dock permits, and water depth before you make an offer.

HOA & Club Structures

Many neighborhoods have HOAs, and country-club or marina amenities may carry separate fees. Review all documents so the full monthly picture is clear.

Mid-Century Stock

The village was largely built out in the 1960s and 1970s. Renovated homes command a premium; original-condition homes are opportunities for the handy buyer. Check roof, AC, and impact windows.
